This Astrid cosplay was such a rewarding project to build for my niece! I 3D printed nearly every part of her Viking gear – the battle axe, shoulder armor, and detail parts for the skirt and headband. The real fun came in the post-processing: painting and weathering everything to make it look authentically worn from dragon training. Watching her proudly wield her axe and channel her inner Astrid was the perfect reminder of why I love crafting and cosplay – it’s all about imagination, creativity, and a little bit of Viking spirit!
Astrid
Axe
I 3D printed Astrid’s massive Battle Axe, complete with weathered details and a Viking-worthy finish. My niece is absolutely adorable wielding it!
Skirt, Headband, Armbands
I combined faux leather and 3D printing to recreate Astrid’s iconic Viking gear. The skirt, headband, and armbands were all hand-cut from faux leather, while the skulls, spikes, and rivets were 3D printed to match the original design. The blend of materials made the finished costume both lightweight and authentic – perfect for a fierce little dragon rider.
Shoulder Armor
The shoulder armor was fully 3D printed and painted to match Astrid’s signature Viking design –rugged, metallic, and ready for dragon battles.
Additional Viking Helmets
Expanded my viking army by 3D printing three helmet designs: viking helmet with mask, 3 different sizes of this viking helmet, and full size viking helmet.
Toothless Dragon Scale Hands
Made these dragon scale hands for the Toothless costume.
