Candlelight flickered, masks shimmered, and for one enchanting evening our basement transformed into a ballroom of intrigue. Inspired by Bridgerton drama, romance, and whispered scandals, we hosted a Masquerade & Mystery Ball to watch the Season 4 premiere. Guests arrived masked and suspicions ran high. Between elegant décor, a playful mystery game, and a scandal waiting to be uncovered, the night blurred the line between spectator and participant. Consider this your invitation behind the scenes of a ball where secrets were currency, speculation was encouraged, and unmasking the scandal was as much fun as unmasking true love.
Pink goes good with green – especially when love gets complicated in Oz. Instead of taking down my Wicked decor, I turned it into a full Valentine takeover, complete with triangle ornaments inspired by iconic love triangles, a pink Emerald City train glow-up, floating hearts, and Jonathan Bailey Cupid spinning between Elphaba and Glinda as the self-proclaimed “sexiest baby alive.” Subtle? Never. Oz-approved chaos? Absolutely.
💚 Wicked Wonderland – Wizard of Oz Christmas Decor 🩷
Welcome to my Wicked Wonderland – where Glinda’s sparkle meets Emerald City mischief and our whole home gets a little Oz-ified for the holidays. Our 2025 theme was a pink-and-green mashup that’s equal parts magical and playful: a Glinda the Good Bubble Tree that feels straight out of a fairytale, an Emerald City Wicked Tree dripping in steampunk gears and gold, and a lineup of 3D-printed creations that turn the decor into a full-on storybook scene. From custom toppers and Wicked & Wizard of Oz character nods to an Oz steampunk train and a hot air balloon adventure, every corner has an “I made that” moment. And of course, it wouldn’t be Wicked without some drama – Elphaba and her flying monkeys colliding with Glinda and her bubble snowstorm – like the North and South poles of Oz teamed up to decorate, then argued over who got the best tree.
Our 14-day adventure through New Zealand was a dream come true for Lord of the Rings fans and nature lovers alike. Starting in Auckland, we explored volcanic parks, cultural treasures, and both Weta workshops before diving into a Middle-earth journey through lush farmlands, glowworm caves, and the iconic Hobbiton Movie Set. From geysers and geothermal pools in Rotorua to the epic Tongariro Alpine Crossing (a real-life Mordor), each day was packed with unforgettable landscapes and film locations. We wandered through Rivendell, stood atop Edoras, and even soared by helicopter into the glacial valleys of Earnslaw Burn. Queenstown capped off the trip with adrenaline-fueled bungy jumps and a jet boat ride on the Shotover. With stunning hikes, immersive film tours, and cozy lodges across both islands, this was a once-in-a-lifetime journey worthy of its own epic trilogy.
🏔️ Where Waterfalls Roar & Mountains Soar – Our 12-Day Switzerland Journey
From lakeside castles and storybook villages to alpine peaks and glacier trails, our 12-day Switzerland adventure was a journey through every corner of Swiss beauty. We began along the shores of Lake Geneva, exploring medieval fortresses like Chillon, Nyon, and Aigle, sampling wine in Chexbres, and visiting the legendary Gruyères hilltown for a taste of traditional cheesemaking. A quick stop in Geneva took us to the world-renowned CERN, while Bern impressed with its Old Town and bears along the riverside. From there, we ventured into the Bernese Oberland, where Mürren became our mountain base for paragliding over the Lauterbrunnen Valley, tackling the thrilling via ferrata to Gimmelwald, revolving at the Schiltorn Piz Gloria, and biking past iconic waterfalls and alpine trails. Continuing through Lauterbrunnen, we hiked scenic routes like the Männlichen Panorama Trail, Eiger Trail, and Schynige Platte to First, then admired Oeschinensee’s turquoise waters. In Zermatt, we chased the Matterhorn from every angle – along the 5-Lakes and Glacier Trails, and on the unforgettable descent from Gornergrat to Riffelsee. We closed our Swiss journey in Lucerne, strolling the Chapel Bridge and Altstadt as the sun set over Lake Lucerne – before ending with bikes and canals in Amsterdam. Join us as we journey through Switzerland region by region – featuring detailed itineraries, practical tips, breathtaking photos, and our favorite moments from one of the most spectacular destinations on earth.
🚴‍♂️ Amsterdam Highlights – Biking, Canals & Anne Frank House
Our day in Amsterdam captured the city’s essence – lively, scenic, and full of surprises. From the moment we stepped out of Centraal Station, we were surrounded by a maze of canals, flower-topped bridges, and the constant flow of bikes. After refueling with Dutch pancakes, we biked through the city like locals, weaving between historic streets and gliding along the canals past gabled houses and café terraces. After conquering bustling Damrak we rode through Vondelpark and beneath the Rijksmuseum’s iconic archway, feeling the pulse of Amsterdam at every turn. As evening fell, the pace slowed with a reflective visit to the Anne Frank House, followed by a peaceful canal cruise beneath glowing bridges and sunset skies – the perfect end to a day that blended history and quintessential Dutch charm.
🪄Hogwarts Professors Reimagined: Creating McGonagall’s Cat and Lupin’s Werewolf Cosplays
This Halloween, we stepped into the wizarding world as two of our favorite Hogwarts professors – Minerva McGonagall and Remus Lupin – as part of a full family costume that also featured Professor Trelawney and a Ravenclaw student. Since both of our chosen professors transform into animals, I combined 3D printing, LEDs, and a touch of transfiguration magic to create a glowing green-eyed cat mask for McGonagall and a fierce werewolf mask for Lupin, capturing their Animagus and full-moon transformations.
🪄Harry Potter Halloween Magic – A Spellbinding Home Transformation
Halloween at the Perdue Palace got a full dose of wizarding wonder this year with a Harry Potter transformation straight out of Hogwarts. ✨ From the moment you step inside, floating candles flicker overhead while flying letters swirl from the fireplace and a broom chases enchanted keys through the air. The Goblet of Fire casts an eerie glow beside witches cauldrons, apothecary potions, and a rather ridiculous wand collection that would make Ollivander himself jealous. 3D-printed details bring the magic to life – from the Nimbus 2000 and sorting hats to keys, wands, and spellbinding props. Throughout the house, you’ll spot familiar relics like Hedwig, the golden dragon egg, the flying car caught in the whomping willow, Hagrid and Harry on the motorbike, a time-turner, and even Fluffy guarding the sorcerer’s stone. Many of these pieces were repurposed from our Christmas decor – because with a little creativity (and a touch of Lumos), holiday sparkle transforms beautifully into Halloween sorcery.
Lucerne in an Evening – Chapel Bridge, Musegg, Altstadt & Lake Promenade
We traded Matterhorn reflections for lake bridges as we took the scenic train from Zermatt to Lucerne and headed straight for Kapellbrücke – a 14th-century covered wooden bridge lined with flowers and historic paintings beside the octagonal Water Tower – over the Reuss. From there we climbed the Musegg Wall for lake and Alps views, then wandered the Altstadt. As sunset lit the river, we settled onto the waterfront at Pfistern to enjoy the Lucerne specialty – Lozärner Fritschi-Paschtet – and watch boats and swans drift by. After dusk, we admired the Lion Monument beside its still pond and closed the night along the Lake Lucerne beneath grand hotels like the Schweizerhof with swans skimming through the glassy water.
🏔️ Riffelsee Reflections of the Matterhorn – Hiking Gornergrat to Riffelberg
Our morning on the Gornergrat route was the perfect finale to our time in Zermatt – a mix of iconic views, peaceful trails, and a few surprises along the way. We said goodbye to Switzerland in grand fashion with a ride on the historic Gornergrat Railway, the highest open-air railway in Europe, climbing to the 3,089 m summit where the Matterhorn and Gorner Glacier stretched out before us in a panorama so vast it hardly felt real. After an impromptu snowball fight and dozens of glacier photos, we began our downhill descent toward Riffelberg, pausing at Riffelsee for the classic reflection shot and then discovering an even quieter second lake just beyond it that completely stole our hearts. The path wound through rocky terrain, ending with a relaxed drink on the terrace at Riffelberg Station, the Matterhorn still watching over us one last time before our train back to Zermatt and onward to Lucerne.
