🎬 Living the Crazy Rich Asians Dream: Filming Locations in Singapore

What happens when you mix rooftop infinity pools, extravagant wedding receptions, hawker food, and one of the most glamorous rom-coms ever filmed? You get the ultimate Crazy Rich Asians adventure through Singapore. Follow in Rachel Chu’s footsteps from the legendary Marina Bay Sands infinity pool and the dazzling Supertree Grove wedding reception to chili crab and satay at Newton Food Centre and the waterfront where Nick finally pops the question. Along the way, you’ll discover that while most of us aren’t flying private jets or inheriting family fortunes, Singapore makes it surprisingly easy to feel like you’ve stepped into the movie. So grab your camera and get ready to visit the iconic locations that brought Crazy Rich Asians to life.

💡 Tips

  • 🎥 Film Location Strategy: Most of the Crazy Rich Asians filming locations are clustered around Marina Bay, the Civic District, and Chinatown, making it easy to visit several in a single day. Don’t underestimate Singapore’s heat and humidity, though. Use Grab whenever possible to save time and energy. Even with a few rides, we still logged over 25,000 steps while exploring the filming locations.
  • 🏊‍♂️ Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool: The iconic rooftop infinity pool serves as the backdrop for the lavish engagement party scenes in Crazy Rich Asians. If you’re staying at the hotel, visit at both sunrise and sunset for two completely different experiences. Not a guest? You can still enjoy the famous rooftop views by purchasing a ticket to the SkyPark Observation Deck or by dining at one of the rooftop restaurants such as CE LA VI.
  • 🌆 Marina Bay Waterfront: For the classic Crazy Rich Asians MBS skyline shot, walk along the waterfront near Merlion Park and Jubilee Bridge. The view of Marina Bay Sands across the bay is especially stunning after dark when the skyline lights reflect on the water.
  • 💍 Esplanade Park: One of the most fun Crazy Rich Asians photo ops is recreating Rachel’s proposal scene at the stepped riverfront seating area. The skyline, bridge, and historic Fullerton building are instantly recognizable from the movie, making it easy to compare your view to the film and debate which exact square Rachel was sitting on before Nick walked up behind her.
  • 🌳 Supertree Grove: Visit after sunset for the most magical experience. The illuminated Supertrees look remarkably similar to the wedding reception scenes, and the free Garden Rhapsody light show makes the atmosphere even more cinematic.
  • 🦪 Humpback Restaurant: Request the outdoor patio table from Rachel and Peik Lin’s lunch scene when making your reservation. The staff were incredibly welcoming, seated us in the exact filming location, created a personalized birthday card with our photo and the famous backdrop.
  • 🦀 Newton Food Centre: This is one of the best places to experience the same bustling hawker culture featured in the movie. Arrive during peak lunch or dinner hours, as many stalls close between meal periods.
  • 🧜‍♀️ Merlion Park: One of the best locations for skyline photos of Marina Bay Sands, but expect large crowds throughout the day. Early morning offers the lightest crowds, while evening provides the most dramatic skyline views.
  • CHIJMES: This church is one of the most recognizable filming locations from the movie. Be sure to fit this in your itinerary (we ran out of time).
  • 🍹 Raffles Hotel: Try the famous Singapore Sling invented here and stroll through the property to experience one of Singapore’s most iconic luxury landmarks featured in the film.
  • ✈️ Changi Airport: The airport’s lush greenery and Terminal 3 appear in Crazy Rich Asians, showcasing Singapore’s futuristic style. While Jewel wasn’t completed until 2019 after filming wrapped, don’t miss the Rain Vortex after dark when the world’s tallest indoor waterfall comes alive with lights and music.

🏊‍♂️ Marina Bay Sands Rooftop Infinity Pool (Engagement Party)

No Crazy Rich Asians pilgrimage is complete without visiting Marina Bay Sands, home to the lavish engagement party that introduced audiences to Singapore’s over-the-top luxury. Perched 57 stories above the city, the infinity pool has become one of the most recognizable pools in the world, offering panoramic views that make anyone feel a little crazy rich.

🎆 Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade

Want the postcard view of Marina Bay Sands that appears throughout Crazy Rich Asians? Head to the waterfront promenade near Merlion Park or Jubilee Bridge, where you’ll get an unobstructed view of Singapore’s most famous skyline. This area is especially memorable at the end of the film, when Marina Bay Sands sparkles across the water during the final celebration. Visit during the day for sweeping city views or return after dark when the towers light up and reflect across the bay, creating one of the most iconic scenes in Singapore.

🦪 Humpback Restaurant (Rachel and Peik Lin Lunch)

Tucked away on Bukit Pasoh Road, Humpback is where Rachel and Peik Lin share lunch while navigating Singapore’s complicated social scene. The cozy seafood restaurant remains a hidden gem, and the staff fully embraced the movie connection by seating us in the exact filming location and making our visit feel like a VIP experience, including creating a personalized birthday card with our photo and the famous backdrop, and even surprised us with a birthday candle and song. This was one of my favorite meals of our Asia trip.

💍 Esplanade Park (Nick Proposes to Rachel)

This picturesque riverside promenade is the setting for one of Crazy Rich Asians’ most memorable scenes, when Nick finally proposes to Rachel. Framed by the historic Fullerton building, a charming white bridge, and Singapore’s soaring financial district, the location perfectly blends old and new Singapore. Fans can even visit the distinctive stepped seating area from the scene and recreate one of the film’s most romantic moments.

🌳 Supertree Grove (Wedding Reception)

If there is one location that truly captures the magic of Crazy Rich Asia, it’s the Supertree Grove. These futuristic vertical gardens provided the backdrop for Colin and Araminta’s unforgettable wedding reception, and when the trees illuminate each evening during the Garden Rhapsody show, the scene feels every bit as enchanting as it did on screen.

🧜‍♀️ Merlion Park

The iconic half-lion, half-fish Merlion is one of Singapore’s most famous landmarks and appears in the film’s sweeping city montage. While the crowds can be intense, the views of Marina Bay Sands and the skyline make it one of the best photo stops in the city.

🦀 Newton Food Centre

Rachel’s introduction to Singapore’s legendary hawker culture happens at Newton Food Centre, where sizzling satay, seafood, and bustling crowds create one of the movie’s most authentic local scenes. Whether you’re trying chili crab from Heng Heng BBQ (#31), satay, or fresh lime juice, this is one stop where you can literally taste a piece of the film.

✈️ Jewel Changi Airport

Before Rachel ever steps into Singapore’s world of luxury and extravagance, Crazy Rich Asians opens with a stunning arrival sequence showcasing one of the city’s greatest modern icons: Changi Airport. While the movie predates the opening of Jewel, this spectacular airport complex perfectly captures the same sense of wonder and over-the-top Singaporean ambition seen throughout the film. Home to the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, lush indoor gardens, and futuristic architecture, Jewel feels like a movie set in its own right and is the perfect first or last stop on any Crazy Rich Asians inspired itinerary.
💦 Don’t Miss: The HSBC Rain Vortex comes alive after dark (open 10 AM – 10 PM), when lights and music transform the world’s tallest indoor waterfall into one of Singapore’s most mesmerizing attractions.

CHIJMES

CHIJMES served as the setting for Colin and Araminta’s breathtaking wedding ceremony. The former Gothic chapel provided the perfect backdrop for one of the most visually stunning scenes in modern romantic comedy history, complete with flooded aisles and a surprise performance of “Can’t Help Falling in Love.” We unfortunately ran out of time to visit here but will go the next time we visit.

🍹 Raffles Hotel

While its role in the film is brief, Raffles Hotel is one of Singapore’s most legendary landmarks. This grand colonial-era property has hosted celebrities, royalty, and world leaders for more than a century and remains the birthplace of the famous Singapore Sling cocktail. We also ran out of time to visit here but will try their Singapore Sling the next time we visit.
