GoT I Drink and I Know Things Glass Etch

Scott’s favorite wine glass broke so we decided to make our own when we couldn’t find a replacement. Scott discovered Amour Etch, and with a stencil made with my Cricut we were able to create an even better one in less than a half hour!

Cricut Vinyl Stencil

Scott created the graphic, and I cut out a stencil with Oracle 651 vinyl on my Cricut Maker. I used permanent vinyl to ensure it stuck well to the glass and that the Armour Etch didn’t creep under. I utilized clear transfer tape on top of the vinyl stencil so all the parts of the letters would stay intact during the transfer to the wine glass.

Apply Armour Etch

Amour Etch contains ammonium and sodium bifluorides, which are corrosive and dangerous. Thus, first don that PPE (nitrile gloves and safety goggles) to protect yourself from skin or eye damage. Use a paint brush to apply thoroughly and ensure full coverage. I made sure to stroke in one direction (vertical) to start, and then did the other directions afterwards (horizontal and diagonal). I left it on for 5 minutes rather than the recommended 1 minute by manufacturer (based on feedback from multiple sources). This gave a perfect etch!

Rinse

After the wait time, rinse thoroughly with water. Wipe with a paper cloth to ensure it all comes off, and so you can peel back a part of the vinyl to confirm the etch took. You can do a second application if needed, but this one didn’t require it.

Drink

Here’s the finished glass! It looks great with red wine in it 🙂
