Halloween at the Perdue Palace got a full dose of wizarding wonder this year with a Harry Potter transformation straight out of Hogwarts. ✨ From the moment you step inside, floating candles flicker overhead while flying letters swirl from the fireplace and a broom chases enchanted keys through the air. The Goblet of Fire casts an eerie glow beside witches cauldrons, apothecary potions, and a rather ridiculous wand collection that would make Ollivander himself jealous. 3D-printed details bring the magic to life – from the Nimbus 2000 and sorting hats to keys, wands, and spellbinding props. Throughout the house, you’ll spot familiar relics like Hedwig, the golden dragon egg, the flying car caught in the whomping willow, Hagrid and Harry on the motorbike, a time-turner, and even Fluffy guarding the sorcerer’s stone. Many of these pieces were repurposed from our Christmas decor – because with a little creativity (and a touch of Lumos), holiday sparkle transforms beautifully into Halloween sorcery.

🧙 Harry Potter Halloween Decor
Here’s a spellbinding look at this year’s magical transformation.
🕯️ Floating Candles, Enchanted Keys and Flying Broom
The floating candles were created using battery-operated candles suspended from clear fishing line, giving them the illusion of drifting midair like the Great Hall at Hogwarts. Here’s the setup of the floating candles. Next to the candles, 3D-printed flying keys flutter through the air – each with delicate translucent wings that shimmer in the candlelight. Completing the scene, a 3D-printed Nimbus 2000 joins the fray, zipping after the keys in a burst of magical motion. Together, they bring the room to life with the illusion of spells in action.
🔥 Goblet of Fire
Our Goblet of Fire is a showstopping centerpiece, fully 3D printed with LED light effects to mimic the flickering blue flames. Here’s the creation process.
✉️ Hogwarts Letters
The flying Hogwarts letters burst dramatically from our fireplace, each sealed with a red wax emblem. I printed lightweight envelopes and attached them to clear wire so they appear frozen mid-flight, recreating Harry’s unforgettable moment when his invitations came pouring through the chimney. Here’s the process for making of hundreds of Hogwarts letters.
🧪 Potions & Cauldrons
The potions station and cauldrons bring a moody, mystical glow to the setup. I filled jars and bottles with colored liquids, glitter, and floating herbs, labeling them with aged parchment tags. Lights beneath the cauldron add that eerie simmer.
🎩 Sorting Hats
Each sorting hat was 3D printed, hand-painted, and textured to look like aged, weathered leather. They perch throughout the room waiting to assign the next student their house, one even includes a dice to roll to determine your house!
🪄 Wands
Our wand display is practically a museum exhibit – each 3D printed and finished to match famous wizard styles. With so many variations, it’s safe to say this “ridiculous wand collection” could easily supply every witch and wizard at Hogwarts (or our neighborhood).
🦉 Magical Creatures & Trinkets
This section ties it all together – a display of our favorite magical moments. Hedwig perches proudly in the window sill, Fawkes fiery feathers flitter on the Dumbledore’s shelf, and Fluffy guards the Sorcerer’s Stone. The golden snitch glimmers, the flying car tangles perfectly in a miniature Whomping Willow, and a time-turner spins beside the shimmering dragon egg. Each was crafted or 3D printed to capture a bit of the whimsy and wonder that defines the Wizarding World.
