We had a Very Hobbit Christmas in 2012 with hobbit hole gingerbread houses and a seven course feast of hobbit sized goodies including lembas bread!
Hobbit Hole Ginger Bread Houses
These hobbit holes were the funnest gingerbread houses I’ve ever made. They were actually way easier than a traditional house! Just bake the gingerbread on a glass bowl; cut off a portion of the front for the door and bake it flat. Be sure to put grass icing on top and sprinkle with snow (coconut flakes)
Hobbit Feast
This quote inspired our feast fit for Hobbits (it’s even on our kitchen wall)!
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
Thorin
Our Hobbit feast wouldn’t be complete without a seven course menu:
- Breakfast: scones
- Second breakfast: fruit
- Elevensies: lembas bread (pattern)
- Luncheon: sausage balls, cheese & crackers
- Afternoon tea: spiced chai tea, honey cakes
- Dinner: beef and pork meat pies, rolls, pints of beer
- Supper: mashed taters precious, plum/bread pudding, Entwine (wassail and wine)
Lembas! Elvish Way-bread. One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man!
Legolas
The Christmas theme was a surprise, and we utilized these clues leading up to the day with the final clue inviting everyone over for breakfast:
- Seven Snow, Thirteen Ho Ho Ho!
- One dish, two dish, three fish, blue swish
- Ramble on and on and on
- Pies
- Sun and fire are quite dire
- Frito & Frodo, my Preciouses
- First breakfast
