Scott first saw the Nationals play at RFK Memorial Stadium in 2005, where the awkward, multipurpose layout – built for football and soccer – never felt suited to baseball. When Nationals Park opened in 2008, we expected a dramatic transformation. Its steel, glass, and precast‑concrete façade and LEED Silver certification do signal modernity and sustainability, but the overall impression remains somewhat generic compared to more iconic ballparks. Nestled in the Navy Yard along the Anacostia River, the park’s open outfield frames the riverfront and the nearby Fairgrounds container market, anchoring a broader urban revitalization of the neighborhood. Inside, the concessions deliver: Ben’s Chili Bowl and Shake Shack satisfy classic cravings, Jammin’ Island BBQ brings smoky jerk ribs, and Fluffy Thoughts Cakes steals the show with its Bryce Harper–themed HarpCake. The Presidents Race remains a fan‑favorite spectacle. Though the fan base is still growing – and weekday crowds can feel sparse – the Nationals’ young talent and these curated experiences promise a livelier atmosphere in seasons ahead.
My nephew Wyatt is currently into trucks and Elmo; hence the theme for his second birthday party 🙂 This is the first time I’ve actually taken step-by-step pictures of my cake progression. I’m super excited to have this blog so I can now share my fun cake innovations with you all. My sister and I paired up to make this one, and I’d say we did a decent job for our first attempt at a truck or Sesame Street themed cake 🙂
We finally made it over to Kauffman Stadium for an I-70 Series matchup between the Cardinals and Royals – hard to believe it took us this long! We joined a big crew of Cards and Royals fans (huge thanks to by brother Tim Schatz for organizing) and enjoyed our first-ever baseball tailgate, which turned out to be a blast – even with the drizzle and threat of a rainout. This marked our third visit to The K, having previously attended the 2012 All-Star Game and a Mariners matchup, and it continues to impress. Set just off I-70 in East Kansas City, Kauffman may lack a walkable urban setting, but it makes up for it with ample parking, a strong tailgating culture, and a safe, gated complex shared with Arrowhead. Inside, the stadium shines with its iconic outfield fountains, family-friendly play areas, and the eye-catching Crown Vision scoreboard – a vertical HD screen topped with a glowing golden crown. Concessions aren’t the main draw here, but that’s where tailgating and nearby KC BBQ come in handy. The atmosphere was fantastic – Royals fans were welcoming and good-natured, even as we cheered the Cards to a 6–1 victory. Overall, Kauffman Stadium delivers a well-rounded and memorable experience that’s absolutely worth the short trip for any St. Louis fan.
…because I get sidetracked making stupid stuff like this GIF.
We went to Cancun, Mexico last December for a pre-Christmas winter getaway. Our last night there was Mexican Night at our resort (Sandos Cancun Luxury Experience Resort). We had a mariachi band practically to ourselves! It certainly wrapped up the trip in memorable fashion. Here’s a video Scott made.
My loving husband, Scott, made this blog for us for my birthday. How exciting! I’m not sure exactly what will evolve out of this, but I would assume that its focus will be on our hobbies – baseball, cooking, gardening, traveling, crafts and fun times with family and friends. If you’re wondering about the name – it’s a combination of Perdue and Fuzion – which is a representation of how we like to fuse ideas from all walks of our lives. We love to try new things and intermingle different aspects of things we’ve learned in creative outlets. Stay tuned for more fun with the Perdues!
