3D Prints, Cosplay, Projects

Craft Room

This is my favorite room in our house! I started planning for this room as soon as we started building our house! I setup zones in the room for Cricut, crafting, painting, science/steampunk, gift wrapping, sewing, cosplay, and 3D printing. This is my happy place and where I go when I need to enter the creative zone 🙂

Here’s a 360 look around the entire craft room.

Craft Table

Bought two white shelves, and cut a 4’x8′ MDF board to 42″x54″ to sit atop the shelves. Finished the edges with iron-on Edgebanding. Hung some of my art from when I was in 4-H as a kid on the sides of the shelves. It’s a perfect height for crafting with my nieces and nephews. 🙂

Pegboard

Cut a 4’x8′ pegboard to 4’x6′ and attached decorative trim. 3D printed all the pegboard hooks, shelves, pen holders, pencil holders, and tape/ribbon holders.

Cricut

Organized my Cricut Maker, heat press, and all the materials (permanent vinyl, heat transfer vinyl, paper) on one side of my craft table. 3D printed a hex storage system to organize my rolls of vinyl on the side of the shelves. Remixed a paper sorter to hold the different paper types, organized by rainbow color. Hung the Cricut cutting mats along the bottom of the pegboard.

Crafting and Painting

Remixed a paint rack for hanging on my pegboard to hold acrylic and puff paints. Hung paint brushes and palettes next to the paint. Organized large paint bottles on a decorative shelf next to the pegboard. Organized other crafting supplies like scissors, cutters, writing utensils (pencils, crayons, markers), ribbons, and string within easy reach on the pegboard. Everyone always remarks on how many different scissors I have (thanks to my scrapbooking collection)! Included other miscellaneous craft supplies in the craft table shelving (i.e. drawing paper, coloring books, easel, feathers, jewels, Cards/baseball, Blues/hockey, deco mesh).

Science and Steampunk

Setup a decorative shelf to hold my steampunk creations (guns, masks, pipes) and supplies (gears, tubing, rivets, leather, Rub N Buff, etc.); and science gear (flasks, test tubes, vials, experiments, etc.). 3D printed a cool DNA molecule to display on the corner. Also included adhesives/glue/hooks and styrofoam/EVA craft foam at the bottom of this section. 3D printed stackable storage boxes to store Command strips and wall hooks.

Gift Wrapping

Using bag storage holders, organized the tissue, bows, and wrapping paper rolls on the wall. On the pegboard, hung the gift bags, tape, scissors, ribbon, and tags. Included other miscellaneous wrapping and box packaging supplies in the craft table shelving.

Sewing

Purchased a spool organizer to hang my thread and other twine on the pegboard. Hung the sewing boards on the bottom of the pegboard with the other mats. Put the remaining sewing supplies (sewing machine, material, needles, etc.) on one side of the craft table shelving.

3D Printing

I have an entire wall with a long table for 3D printers. I’ve upgraded my Ender 3 Pro to the Creality CR-6 SE and the Creality CR-10 SMART (and room for at least 2 more printers). There is storage underneath the table for filament containers and 3D printing supplies. Setup a decorative wall shelf to put 3D printed toys and flexi-friends for my nieces and nephews to choose from when they visit.

Costume Closet

Organized the walk-in closet by costume themes with color-coded 3D printed dividers for the closet sections and vinyl graphics for the containers. The major themes included the following: Cats/Creatures, Cultural/Era, Heroes, Medieval, Hollywood, Prince, Princess/Fancy, Scary, Space, Sports/Professions, Steampunk/Science, and Tropical/Jungle. Used the white ClosetMaid SuperSlide customizable shelving to allow flexibility with setting up the various sections. With Command hooks spray painted hammered silver, hung the armory, capes, masks, helmets, and wigs on the wall.

Prince and Princess

The Prince and Princess sections are right at the entry, with easy access to the dresses on the bottom shelf. The Princess section includes most of the short, fancy dresses including Aurora, Little Red Riding Hood, Alice in Wonderland, Dorothy. Hung a jewelry armoire over the door to hold tiaras, necklaces, headbands, rings, and glasses so it was easy to fancy ourselves up.

Medieval

The Medieval section is quite large, and includes dragons, LOTR, GoT, Robin Hood, pirates, and other Renaissance costumes as well as an armory along the wall for swords and bow & arrow. There can be some overlap with Prince & Princess so these are next to each other.

Steampunk/Science and Cultural

There’s a bit of overlap between Steampunk, Medieval, and Cultural so put the Steampunk/Science section between these. It includes a lot of corsets, skirts, top hats, and lab gear. Setup an entire shelf in the craft room to display my Steampunk & Science creations and store supplies for future innovations. The Cultural section includes British (suit/dress/fascinators), Mardi Gras, era (20s/70s/80s/90s), Irish/Scottish (kilts), Mexican (sombreros), German (lederhosen), French (maid), Greek/Roman (togas/centurion), and even a caveman.

Creatures and Tropical

The Creatures section has a surplus of cats, unicorns, and onesies. The Tropical section to the right of this has monkeys and luau gear. This overlaps with the dragons in the Medieval section so it worked out well that these are right below this section.

Heroes

The Heroes section got so large it extended outside the costume closet. Our Thor and Loki costumes and props from our most recent Halloween costumes really added a lot to the section. We have lots of Batman & Robin, Wonder Woman, and Flash gear. Hung capes, masks, helmets, and swords on the wall for easy access (plus they look awesome!).

Space

Right next to the Heroes is the Space section, which includes cosplay for astronauts, aliens, and Star Wars (Darth Vader and Yoda).

Sports & Professions

Right above the Space and Heroes sections is the Sports & Professions section, which includes boxers, baseball/umpire, ninja, fireman, police officer, sailer, detective, construction worker, and cowboys & Indians. There’s a lot of overlap between these sections so it’s nice that they are right by each other.

Hollywood and Scary

The Hollywood section includes gear for costumes like Hermione, Mrs. Doubtfire, Kevin from the Office, V for Vendetta, Crazy Cat Lady, Eleven, and even Santa. The Scary section is pretty small but include Dracula and a spider costume and fake blood.

Superhero Wall

After dressing up as Thor and Loki for Halloween, I had a surplus of helmets and weapons so started a superhero wall to hang them. We have a really cool caricature of us that goes perfectly with that wall.

LOTR Wall

Setup a Lord of the Rings wall behind my standing desk to display all our LOTR mementos and toys. I made a LOTR riddle game in high school so hung this to display.
