From Positano to Amalfi: Stair Struggles, Anchovy Regrets & Scenic Wins

Our time in Positano was… unforgettable, though not exactly for the reasons we expected. After a scenic ferry ride, we quickly discovered that Positano is basically a vertical maze of stairs – and not ideal when your travel buddy (Scoot) is nursing a busted knee from a Capri scooter mishap. With no elevator in sight, Scoot heroically scooted up the stairs on his booty, living up to his nickname. While we didn’t explore as much as planned, we still managed to soak in the views, hop over to Amalfi and Ravello, and make one very questionable food decision: anchovy pizza. One bite in and we knew… mistakes were made. Positano gave us beauty, laughs, and a salty life lesson we won’t soon forget.

No Elevator, No Problem: Scoot Scoots Up Positano

Ah, Positano – the vertical postcard of Italy. Cliffside beauty, pastel buildings, sea views… and one million stairs. Normally, we’d be all about exploring every corner of this dreamy town, but this time we had… a situation.

Thanks to a Capri scooter mishap, Scoot’s knee was in rough shape. Let’s just say scooters: 1, Scoot: 0. And if there’s one thing Positano is not, it’s mobility-friendly. Our charming hotel? No elevator. Just an endless staircase to the room, like some kind of Mediterranean leg day challenge.

So how did Scoot conquer it? With pure grit… and his butt. Yep, Scoot literally scooted up the stairs on his booty, one step at a time like a wounded mountain goat. It was equal parts impressive, hilarious, and mildly tragic. We called it the “Great Scoot Ascent of 2016.”

Needless to say, we didn’t cover as much ground in Positano as we usually would. But we still soaked in the views, lounged a little, and limped our way to a few good meals. Sometimes, travel throws you a curveball – and sometimes that curveball throws itself down a hill in Capri.

💡 Travel Tip: If you’re heading to Positano and stairs aren’t your thing, double-check that hotel listing for “elevator included.” And maybe skip the scooters.
