🍄 Super Mario Meets Spider-Verse: Our DIY Halloween Cosplay

With great power comes great plumbing! For Halloween 2026, we gave the Mushroom Kingdom a superhero makeover, combining two iconic worlds into one family cosplay! Scott transformed into Spider-Mario, I became Spider-Peach (Princess Peach meets Spider-Gwen), and our orange tabby Frito reluctantly joined as Luigi. Our nephew also got in on the fun as Luigi, giving us double the green-clad plumbers! Between custom 3D-printed costumes and accessories, a little wand magic, and plenty of web-slinging, we brought our own Mario Multiverse to life for a super-powered Halloween!

🎃 Family Costumes: Welcome to the Mario Multiverse

Our Halloween reveal started with Scott’s classic “It’s-a me, Mario!” before I waved my magic wand. Suddenly, we were Spider-Mario and Spider-Peach, slinging webs and welcoming everyone to the Mario Multiverse! Our nephew joined the family fun as Luigi, while Frito reluctantly modeled his own Luigi cap. He may not have signed up for this crossover, but a few treats and some wand-erful mischief helped win him over!

🕷️ Spider-Peach: Your Friendly Neighborhood Princess

Who needs rescuing when you’ve got a whole multiverse to protect? My costume combined Princess Peach’s royal style with Spider-Gwen’s superhero powers, creating a friendly neighborhood princess with a little extra magic! And what better way to spread some Mushroom Kingdom magic than handing out our annual 3D-printed toys to trick-or-treaters? Saving the multiverse can wait when there are little superheroes and princesses to make smile!

👗 The Dress: Three’s a Crowd!

Rather than sewing a costume from scratch, I combined three different dresses to create my Spider-Peach look! I started with a Spider-Gwen dress featuring its signature white hood, pink mask, and black skirt, adding a short petticoat for volume. Next came a thrifted magenta dress with Peach’s iconic puffed sleeves and longer skirt, which I pinned at the sides for better draping. Finally, I topped it with my Princess Aurora dress featuring light pink and shiny magenta fabric with gold accents. Getting all three layers to cooperate took some experimenting! I sewed the top of the Aurora dress to the magenta dress, tucked the sleeves and upper fabric inside, and gathered the skirts at the sides and center for a more flattering shape. Oversized white cartoon gloves, gold crisscross-strap flats, and spiderweb tights completed my transformation from Mushroom Kingdom royalty to Spider-Verse superhero!

👑 3D Printed Crown: Fit for a Princess

Every princess needs a crown! I 3D printed Peach’s iconic gold crown; it added the perfect royal touch while sitting atop my Spider-Gwen hood, bringing both characters together in one recognizable look.

⭐ 3D Printed Wand: A Little Mushroom Kingdom Magic

What’s a princess without a little magic? I also 3D printed a Princess Peach wand. Whether casting spells or shooting imaginary webs, it was the perfect accessory for my royal superhero transformation!

💎 3D Printed Jewelry: Royal Pain in the Ears!

Peach’s signature blue jewelry was essential to the look, so I printed her blue and gold brooch and designed and printed my own matching oversized Princess Peach earrings. The earrings became a mini engineering project of their own! I wanted the exaggerated, cartoon-style proportions without earrings heavy enough to drag my earlobes to the Mushroom Kingdom. After experimenting with different attachment positions, wall thicknesses, and infill settings, I settled on a lightweight PETG design with 0% infill, weighing ~5.6 g per earring. A little trial and error later, my ridiculously oversized royal jewels were ready for their debut!

🍄 Spider-Mario: Your Friendly Neighborhood Plumber

It’s-a me, Spider-Mario! Scott combined Mario’s iconic red hat, blue overalls, and white cartoon gloves with Spider-Man’s superhero styling. Mario already spends most of his time jumping over obstacles, climbing walls, and rescuing princesses, so a web-slinging upgrade seemed like a natural next step!

🕷️ The Costume: From Plumbing to Web-Slinging

Scott’s costume combined a Spider-Man muscle shirt and mask with Mario’s signature overalls, cap, and oversized white gloves. The recognizable red-and-blue color scheme made the crossover surprisingly natural, while the Mario accessories helped distinguish him from an ordinary neighborhood Spider-Man.

🧢 3D Printed Mario Cap: Hats Off to Spider-Mario!

No Mario costume is complete without his iconic red cap! I 3D printed Scott’s Mario cap to complete his Spider-Mario transformation. The biggest challenge was coordinating it with his Spider-Man mask for our costume reveal videos. Pulling the mask up underneath the cap proved too slow, so he ended up removing it completely before announcing, “It’s-a me, Spider-Mario!” Sometimes even superheroes need a costume workaround!

🟡 3D Printed Buttons: A Super Mario Upgrade

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference! I 3D printed oversized yellow buttons for Scott’s blue overalls, then sewed them directly onto the buckle. The bright yellow buttons helped give the overalls that exaggerated, cartoon-style Mario appearance while complementing the superhero suit underneath.

🐱 Luigi: The Purr-fect Sidekick

Every Mario needs his Luigi, and naturally, Frito wasn’t getting left out of our family Halloween costumes! Our orange tabby joined the Mushroom Kingdom as everyone’s favorite green-clad plumber, although his version required considerably less costume construction than ours.

🍄 3D Printed Luigi Cat Cap: It’s-a Me, Frito!

Rather than putting Frito in an elaborate outfit, I 3D printed a miniature Luigi cat cap and added an elastic strap to help keep it in place. Our orange tabby wasn’t exactly thrilled with his Mushroom Kingdom makeover, but a few treats helped sweeten the deal! Unlike the rest of us, Frito didn’t get a superhero upgrade, although his obsession with Halloween spiderwebs and Princess Peach’s magic wand suggests he’s already halfway to joining the Spider-Verse. No spider powers required when you’re a professional web inspector! 🕸️🐾

💡 Tips: What We Learned in the Mario Multiverse

  • 👗 Layer, Pin & Sew Strategically: Combining existing costumes can create unique crossovers without starting from scratch. Experiment with draping and pinning before making permanent alterations.
  • 🖨️ 3D Print the Details: Crowns, wands, jewelry, buttons, and hats are great opportunities to personalize costumes. Even small accessories can make a big difference!
  • 💎 Keep Accessories Lightweight: Oversized 3D-printed jewelry can get heavy quickly. Experiment with minimal infill and sturdy attachment points to balance comfort and durability.
  • 🎬 Plan Your Costume Reveals: Test costume changes and accessories before filming. Scott’s Spider-Man mask proved easier to remove completely than pull up beneath his Mario cap!
  • 🐱 Keep Pet Costumes Simple: Frito wasn’t thrilled about his Luigi cap, so we kept his appearances brief and rewarded him with treats. Sometimes the funniest moments come from a reluctant sidekick!
